It is not the same issue in California, Florida, Nevada, New Mexico as it is in Maryland, DC and Virginia. Many of the younger women (in MD-DC-VA) region do not wear stockings, particularly with "peep-toe" shoes. I feel less polished (and chilly!) without stockings.
